... to Believe It"
Noah over at Down With Tyranny highlighted one of George Carlin's greatest pieces, titled "The American Dream." In a mere three and a half minute monologue, George tells more truth than you'll ever hear in a conventional conversation about our country. The biggest truth of all is simply this, "they [owners, politicians, celebrities, bosses, etc] don't care about you."
Carlin was a great comic; smart, witty, and absolutely able to get to the heart of our foibles, our hypocrisy and our shames. I miss his voice and his critiques. Satirists and commentators like George, Mark Twain, and Sinclair Lewis are rare and precious balms to the souls bruised by the reality of our national life.
Take a break on your holiday Monday and reflect, is this the country I know? If it is, is this the country I want? And if not, what am I going to do about it?

I loved it when he says that investigations, and commissions are nothing more than white washes. He was way ahead of his time. But in reality it really has not changed that much. What was true then is true now. His rant about "who owns you" is a classic. Carlin can not be replaced. He saw what was in front of America's blind eyes and put it to words. Every kid in high school and college should be forced to sit and watch all of his gigs.
They will learn more from that than any of their professors, or so called 'teachers'.
George was entirely right about the education as it is illustrated in Texas.
Republicans want you just smart enough to flip burgers, do simple math, drive tractor trailers and be brainwashed into believing Newt Gingrich and Phyliss Schlafly gave birth to America, after conservative war heroes slayed the dinosaurs who were responsible for all the dead Indians and had tried to stop Adam and Eve from bringing the Constitution to Jesus in Washington DC which had been built by happy young Africans only too willing to Come to America!
