... but Mike Moore stands for the Citizen
From the first time I saw Roger & Me, I've been a Micheal Moore fan. Yes, he's bombastic. He's over the top. He's been known to distort. And without question, he's a polarizing rabble rouser.
In his heart though, Mike Moore loves the average American. And he's struggled mightily for decades now to show the rest of us what we often do not want to see. What exactly it means to our fellow citizens when their jobs are shipped off to foreign shores. How the myth meets reality when it comes to recruiting for our volunteer military. Why the middle class is disappearing and what it portends for us all.
Moore was interviewed by WAMU's Diane Rehm earlier this week. The entire interview is worth a listen. Do yourself a favor, just click the link and the "LISTEN" button in the upper left. But anyway, jobs are going overseas, but why? Our government does a terrible job promoting a free-market business climate. Seems they're either dumping tons of taxes (that always get passed on to us) and regulations on businesses, or they let the business own them through political bribes.
Bottom line, build a good business climate, and they will come, and they will give us jobs.
IMHO: Moore is one of the few truth to power voices left out there. He reminds me of George Carlin when he spoke about the right " I do not like to be cute with them, I want to CRUSH them.

SF - you may be right about Reifenstahl... but if so, they will be long watching (and admiring) Moore's movies (as so many admire Leni's).
Prey tell, what exactly is a "good business climate"? One that is tax-free? Already US corp taxes area among the lowest in the western world. One that does not regulate externalities? I guess its OK for polluters to fouls our air and poison our water then. Take a look at how awful people's sanitation and environment are in China and India (or even Mexico).
I would argue that the big corps have it just the way they like it here in the good ol'USA. I mean after all, who got to keep all the profits (when there were profits) and who got bailed out when the losses came due? It sure wasn't the average American voter now was it?
At least Moore has the gonads to tell us about these truths too. Making them self-evident in his own way.

If businesses can't make a profit they move. Ask the unemployed in Illinois and Michigan.

Can't disagree with that... but what happens when the balance tips towards business and away from the Citizen? Illinois and Michigan did not drive business away... business left to go overseas where they could use (exploit) cheap labor. Ever hear of NAFTA? Heck, business has had it great extorting plenty o'tax breaks and subsidies from state gov'ts for the "favor" of locating in their environs.
The end of the road is neo-feudalism I think.

SF: re: " a healthy society" Globalization has no healthy society. They move from country to country looking for a higher margin. The globalizers have no country, no passport, no currency, no patriotism.

There is no longer a middle class. The American consumer may not come back to full throttle for a long time, if ever at all.
This was not a dem-repub thing it was an American thing. Yet we keep arguing amongst ourselves while we swallow the drano of the international Banksters. Finance reform is now coming up.
